Syfy’s 2020-2021 New Year’s Twilight Zone Marathon Schedule

Having a Twilight Zone marathon to close out a year like 2020 almost feels redundant. There’s nothing like a global pandemic to make you feel like you’re already knee-deep in the fifth dimension.

And yet, paradoxically, I don’t think we’ve ever needed the comfort of The Twilight Zone more than we do right now.

It can be a scary place, no question. And yet it’s also a land of redemption and wonder — a universe filled with imaginative twists and thought-provoking morals. And hey, when bad things happen, at least they’re happening to fictional characters, and not you!

So if you’re inclined to tune in the Syfy channel to ring out the old and ring in the new with Rod Serling’s brainchild, you’re in luck. Sure, the marathons have their drawbacks (the cuts, the ads, etc.). But for me and for so many other fans, the pros outweigh the cons.

I’d like to thank the good people at Syfy who supplied me with this list ahead of time. This is a first-look exclusive, my friends; it hasn’t been published elsewhere yet. So, without further ado, here’s what we can look forward to seeing this year. All times are EST:

I should also note that the fine folks at Decades are airing a New Year’s marathon as well. Unfortunately, very few people (relatively speaking) can tune them in. But if you can, and you’d like to see which episodes they’re airing, click here and then select December 31 on the calendar grid.

And of course some fans prefer to program their own marathon on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime/CBS All-Access, or DVD/Blu-ray. Wherever you get your fifth-dimensional fix, I hope you have a great time. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Just scrolling through that list of episodes reminds me why TZ is, for me, the finest television series of all time.

    • Yes indeed. Such a run of high-quality work. Truly remarkable.

    • Chevel Borders

Thank you so much for this information and welcome back last year trying to find it on decade was very very difficult to the point I never did manage to get to see the marathonI all the way watched on Syfy thank you again for the list and please please never leave us again love you sci-fi

  2. Thanks for the heads up, und Fröhliches Weihnachten und Herrliches Neues Jahr für dich und deine (trying to get back into what Deutsch I know…)!

    • You’re welcome! Need a bit of help with your non-English phrasing there, I’m afraid.

      • Ha! Google translate is wonderful in this regard (I don’t always get the spelling right): Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and yours! :-P

      • Gotcha! Ha, I tried it with this and it just sat there, not translating. Oh, well. Thanks, Frank — same to you!

  3. I’ve recently been bingeing Twilight Zone episodes on Netflix.

  4. Thanks for publishing the schedule, Paul. I was so worried that, consistent with 2020, SyFy was going to run a WWE Smackdown event or something equally as inappropriate. I think I’m looking forward to this year’s marathon more than ever.

    • Me too! For several weeks, starting around Halloween, I was getting people saying, “We REALLY need a marathon this year.” So I was very happy to be able to pass along this much-needed bit of news. :)

  5. Now I’m gonna drive myself nuts trying to figure out the episodes they are omitting lol (besides the Season 4 episodes…I don’t see any of them listed)

    • Plenty to pick from. 95 from 156 leaves 61 episodes, most of which come from Seasons 4 and 5.

There is ONE episode from Season 4 on the schedule, btw: “Jess-Belle,” at 11:30pm on January 1. Wish there were more, though!

    • I’m not going nuts, I keep a list on my computer. Most episodes are from seasons 1-3 mostly sequential. Jan 2nd has episodes from season 5. Jess-Belle from season 4 as aforementioned.
Paul – thank you for posting this list. The only surprise is how early “Walking Distance” will be shown. I’ll watch the episodes remaining later Saturday and Sunday.

      • You’re very welcome. :) Yeah, it’s a shame WD is so early. And Nick of Time is stuck at 4:30am — not many people are gonna see it there. You’ve got the right idea. Watch at your own pace and timetable.

      • At a glance when I saw that the times changed, I thought, “Wow, there going to show uncut episodes!” Instead some time slots are 25 minutes so, they’ll have to make deeper cuts. With a show like this, how could they possibly think the quantity is more important than quality. I think that it’s important for SYFY to have the Twilight Zone marathon at New Year’s. But it’s getting harder and harder to support them. 1st they reduced the size of the screen so that they could put their logo on the screen. Now less than 30 minutes episodes. I hate to see what’s next.

      • Agreed, JLynn. I don’t understand the mentality at work here. If you’re going to do a marathon, do it right. Think of the fans. Otherwise, what‘s the point? Especially these days, when people have so many options.

      • Someone was saying that the 25 minute episodes might be commercial free. You would think if they were, there would be heavy advertising regarding this.

      • Someone said that the 25 minute episodes might be commercial free. If so, they should be advertising as such.

  6. Thank you for the schedule, Paul! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours! Stay well, and safe!

  7. I can’t believe that ‘Nick of Time” is playing at 4:30am. That is even worse than “Walking Distance” at 8:00am. The line up is very similar to that of last year. They should try to incorporate more season 5 episodes into next year’s lineup.

    • Agreed. One bit of good news: Under the revised schedule, Nick of Time is now at 1:05am on Jan. 1. That’s a bit more manageable. :)

  8. Very nice, Paul. I will be watching although like you I’ve seen them all. My favorite is Walking Distance. This year feels worse than a Twilight Zone episode. Have a happy holiday.

    Paul

  9. Grace Franklin

I am a big fan. Addicted.

  10. Is the TZ marathon shorter this year? I thought it used to last at least 3 days. Maybe that was wishful thinking.

  11. Deborah Kromer

I have been watching the twilight zone for years. I never get tired of it and I think Rod Sterling is a genius, Thank you so much for having a marathon on new years, I for one appreciate it.

  12. Chevel Borders

Thank you so much for this information and welcome back last year trying to find it on decade was very very difficult to the point I never did manage to get to see the marathon all the way watched on Syfy thank you again for the list and please please never leave us again love you sci-fi

  13. Steve Rapoport

I’m searching for a Twilight Zone episode that takes place in a diner, with a young couple, story keeps changing, tapping on the roof, and at the end a writer at a typewriter with a bunch of crumpled paper on the floor. Don’t know title. Can you help? Thanks very much.

  14. Aww no Changing of the Guard with Donald Pleasance this year :( As a teacher, that one’s my all time favorite (followed closely by The Midnight Sun which is airing but not at midnight like it used to for many years :( )

    • Yeah, really sad they aren’t showing Changing of the Guard. One of the tear jerker episodes. I remember Midnight Sun showing at Midnight. Good call!

  15. It’s an American tradition, and it would be a travesty if ended.
    Ever.
